Bradley Wiggins has admitted he was "very lucky" to have escaped serious injury when he was knocked off his bike during a training run earlier this month.

The Tour de France champion and Olympic time trial gold medalist collided with a car near his home in Lancashire, but he was sidelined for only 10 days afterwards.

Wiggins described the accident as a "blessing in disguise", and he is looking forward to getting back to normality after struggling to get to grips with his celebrity status.

"Looking back now, coming off as bad as I did, it was a blessing in disguise because things were getting a bit out of control. It's nice to get back to what I do best, which is riding my bike."

"I was very lucky, it could have been a long, long lay-off but fortunately it was just 10 days and I was just back on the bike," Wiggins told Sky Sports News.

"Looking back now, coming off as bad as I did, it was a blessing in disguise because things were getting a bit out of control. It's nice to get back to what I do best, which is riding my bike.

"It's what I enjoy, it's all the other stuff that I didn't enjoy; the celebrity lifestyle. It has been nice to do what got me there in the first place the last couple of weeks."

Team Sky announced earlier this week that Wiggins' main focus next season would be on the Giro d'Italia, while Chris Froome will lead the team at the Tour de France having finished runner-up to Wiggins this year.
