Sky Sports sources understand Monaco have expressed an interest in signing David Beckham, but remain one of several clubs keen to bring in the midfielder.

Beckham is leaving Los Angeles Galaxy after Saturday's MLS Cup final and he has been linked with a string of clubs across the world.

Teams in Australia, Brazil, China and Russia are reportedly interested in the former England captain, who has not ruled out a return to English football.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder is weighing up his options and it is understood that Monaco are one of the clubs who are keen to offer the 37-year-old one last challenge.

Monaco's once lofty position in European football has declined to the extent that the 2004 Champions League finalists were relegated from Ligue 1 in 2010.

They were taken over a year ago by billionaire Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev, who has ambitions to regain their former status.

The club were also linked with a move for Frank Lampard earlier in the week, although there has been speculation that the Chelsea midfielder could replace Beckham at LA Galaxy.

Monaco are reportedly not considered among the leading contenders to sign Beckham, with Paris St Germain mooted as a more likely option if he heads for France.
