Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has revealed he is closing in on signing a new contract with the League One club.

Davis' side currently sit 16th in the League Two following Saturday's 2-0 win over Crawley, and the Alex boss says he is ready to commit his long-term future to the club.

Davis first joined the Railwaymen in June 2009 as assistant manager to Gudjon Thordarson, leaving Nantwich Town where he won two promotions and the FA Vase in a five-year spell.

He then made the step up to take the top job at Gresty Road, replacing Dario Gradi in November last year, before guiding the side to a play-off final victory at Wembley in May.

Davis told the club's official website: "I am very close with the contract.

"The new copy is in the hands of the solicitor and it is just a question of looking over it and putting pen-to-paper which I am very pleased about."
