Fred Evans: Showcases his talents with victory over Michel Tavares
The British Lionhearts continued their fine start to the World Series of Boxing with a 4-1 victory over Italia Thunder at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Promising heavyweight John Joyce got the home team off to a fine start against the reigning champions with a technical stoppage victory over the experienced Matteo Modugno.
The Italian, who is 12-0 as a pro, was badly cut by the left eye after Joyce had landed a series of straight combinations.
Olympian Andrew Selby recorded a unanimous victory over respected pro Daniele Limone at bantamweight before burgeoning talent Joe Ward made it 3-0 in the light-heavyweight division.
Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin suffered the only defeat on the night as the Irishman finished on the wrong side of a split decision after an even contest against Branimir Stankovic.
Local hero Fred Evans closed the show on a high with a hard-fought victory over middleweight Michel Tavares.
It was another quality performance from the London 2012 silver medal winner as the Lionhearts moved to the top of their group in the World Series.
Their next fixture sees them travel to Kazakhstan on December 7.
