Former Ross County manager Neale Cooper has returned to the SPL club as assistant to Derek Adams.

Cooper was in charge at Victoria Park between 1996 and 2002 before going on to manage at Hartlepool, Gillingham and Peterhead.

"We've got an extremely small staff so it is vital that we have the right people in place to take the club forward," said Adams.

"I've known Neale for a number of years and, having had him join us for a couple of days, it was obvious his qualities complemented what we already had, so I'm delighted that he's agreed to join us."

Cooper, whose son Alex plays in midfield for the Dingwall outfit, resigned from his post at League One Hartlepool in October after a 12-match winless run.

Stuart Balmer, who was operating as first team coach for County, will now take charge of the U20s.
