Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott has challenged full-back Zak Hardaker to retain the number one jersey after replacing Brent Webb.

Last season's number four, as previously worn by Super League legend Keith Senior, has gone to new signing Joel Moon with Hardaker replacing former New Zealand international Webb.

The former Featherstone Rovers back made his debut for England in the Autumn International Series and McDermott is keen for the 21-year-old to continue his excellent progress.

"It is nice for Zak to get the No 1, but he will have to keep earning it and keep putting in performances, like he did last year," commented McDermott in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"The number four shirt he had last season was a fairly prestigious number. Keith Senior - a great player - had that for many years and I know Zak felt special about it.

"Zak will be our full-back next year, he's been given number one and he thoroughly deserves it."
