Hull City defender Paul McShane has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Greece through injury.

McShane had a scan on a calf problem earlier in the week, but the injury has not improved and the Tigers ace has followed Stoke striker Jon Walters in heading home.

A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland confirmed manager Giovanni Trapattoni will not draft in any cover for McShane.

"Paul McShane has withdrawn from the squad to face Greece in Aviva Stadium tomorrow night due to a calf injury," the spokesman said.

"He will return to his club later today for treatment. No replacement has been called up."
