Eddie Hearn: Has warned Carl Froch not to overlook Yusaf Mack
Promoter Eddie Hearn has urged Carl Froch not to let Yusaf Mack stand in the way of a bumper year of rematches in 2013.
Froch ripped the IBF super-middleweight title from Lucian Bute in May and is expected to face him again in Montreal, early next year, while the Nottingham fighter has made no secret of his desire to avenge defeats against Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward.
Hearn is keen to arrange return bouts with the two men who beat Froch on points in the Super Six tournament, but he is fully aware of the threat posed by Mack, who could scupper these plans with an upset win on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.
Froch v Ward rematch?
He told Sky Sports News HD: "We are contractually obliged to rematch Lucian Bute in Montreal, we'll stand by that obligation. We are willing to go to Montreal to make that fight. It will be live on their American networks over there and there will be 20,000 people in the Bell Centre.
"Carl's got unfinished business elsewhere. He really wants the Mikkel Kessler fight and again he really wants the Andre Ward fight. You know Andre Ward did a good number on Carl Froch, it was a tough fight. Carl wasn't at his best and feels he has got a point to prove.
"You know when you look at what Carl's achieved in his career, to go out and finish the job with Bute in Montreal and then Kessler and then Ward next year would be a great 2013.
"Those are the kind of fights he needs now but we must not look past Yusaf Mack. Many people are doing that and if you do that it's a very dangerous thing to do with your career.
"So I know that Carl, being the consummate professional, will deal with Yusaf Mack and then try to move on to Bute, Kessler and Ward next year."
Hearn admits that Froch could be having his last fight on these shores due to the big demand for him on the other side of the Atlantic.
"You know the US networks want to make that Bute fight, would like the Kessler fight and I'm hearing out of all their mouths that they really want Froch-Ward II next year.
"That's a fight that could be heading again to America. we'll do all we can to bring it to the UK, but this could be the last chance for fans in the UK to see him in action over here."
