Nico Rosberg is 'convinced' he will be a match for Lewis Hamilton next season when the pair go head-to-head at Mercedes.

Having spent the entirety of his career to date with McLaren, Hamilton is leaving the team he won the World Championship with to join Rosberg at the Silver Arrows.

The 27-year-olds were team-mates at the turn of the century in their karting days and, despite only having one win in F1 compared to Hamilton's twenty, Rosberg is sure it will not be a one-sided battle at Mercedes in 2013.

"He's one of the best out there so it's going to be very interesting going up against him," Nico told EPSN. "But again, I'm convinced that I'll do well and we'll see how he goes.

"There's no concern, I'm pleased he's joining the team and it's a new challenge for me."

Indeed, rather than worrying about Hamilton's arrival, Rosberg is hopeful the British driver's presence will help the team become Championship contenders.

"I'm very confident, the team is really progressing well and we have a lot more employees who have joined the team this year and they're very clever people that are going to have an impact now - slowly but surely and especially for next year," he added.

"I'm sure we are going to do even better and then also with Hamilton joining the team, that's going to be a good boost for everybody and I think it's a nice change and refreshing, which is good."
