JP Duminy: Warm down injury could be huge for South Africa hopes
South Africa batsman JP Duminy will be out of action for up to six months after rupturing his Achilles.
Duminy was taking part in a warm-down session after the opening day of the first Test with Australia in Brisbane.
He was kicking a rugby ball around with his team-mates when he suffered the injury and has since undergone a successful operation.
The 28-year-old, who was due to bat at No 7 and bowl his off-spin in the match, was a star of their historic 2-1 series victory in Australia four years ago.
The occasional slow bowler was expected to play an important role in their side at the Gabba as selectors had opted to leave out leg-spinner Imran Tahir in favour of a seam-heavy attack.
The shock incident took the gloss off a dominant first day for the tourists, who finished in a commanding position on 255-2, with Hashim Amla (90) and Jacques Kallis (84) eyeing centuries on Saturday.
