Featherstone have signed Wakefield prop Matt James on a two-year contract.

The Wales international is a direct replacement for Rovers skipper Stuart Dickens, who retired at the end of last season to join Wakefield's coaching staff.

Former Bradford and Harlequins player James still had a year left to run on his Wildcats contract but the 25-year-old made only four substitute appearances in Super League this year.

"Having lost Stuart Dickens to retirement, our priority signing was a prop forward to replace him," said Featherstone coach Daryl Powell.

"We have managed to sign a player of undoubted quality who I am positive will become a fans favourite with his all-action style of play."

Wakefield chief executive James Elston said: "We couldn't guarantee Matt first-team rugby on a regular basis in 2013 and, at this stage of his career, he understandably wants to be playing week in, week out.

"We wish him all the best at Featherstone."
