David Ferrer: chasing his seventh title of the season in Paris
World number five David Ferrer raced into the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters with a 6-1 6-3 victory over fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers.
Ferrer, the fourth seed, converted five of his six break points while dropping his own serve only once during a dominant display.
He will take on 16th seed Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round of the indoor tournament in Paris.
Eighth seed Janko Tipsarevic beat Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands 6-4 7-6 (7/0) to stay in the qualification race for the final two spots at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
But 12th seed Richard Gasquet's hopes of making the eight-man, season-ending tournament next week were ended by a 7-6 (7/5) 4-6 6-1 defeat to South African Kevin Anderson.
Big-serving American John Isner also saw his hopes of reaching the O2 Arena dashed after a straight-sets defeat to France's Michael Llodra, while Juan Martin Del Potro kicked off his quest for a third successive title with a 6-2 6-2 win over Alejandro Falla.
Ninth seed Juan Monaco was a 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 winner against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov and Frenchman Gilles Simon saw off Romania's Victor Hanescu 7-5 6-3.
Canadian 14th seed Milos Raonic rounded off Wednesday's action and kept his London bid alive by fighting back to beat Jeremy Chardy 6-7 (4/7) 7-6 (7/4) 6-3.
