Ally McCoist: At odds with what former owner Craig Whyte has had to say over Rangers' financial problems

Ally McCoist says that former Rangers owner Craig Whyte still has questions to answer over the financial collapse of the club.

Whyte broke his silence over his time at Ibrox this week, claiming that "I was driving the train when it crashed, but I didn't set it on its course," in an interview with BBC Scotland.

McCoist feels that Whyte should explain why a payment of £18million in tax was not made when he bought the club for £1 from Sir David Murray in May 2011.

"I didn't take too much notice of it to be quite honest," said the Rangers manager on Whyte's interview.

"I'm just a little bit disappointed the real question hasn't been answered: why was there non-payment of PAYE and National Insurance?

"That, from what I was told, was the reason we went into administration.

"I think he's an intelligent man, not to buy a train that's going to crash.

"If I was going to buy a train, I don't think the first one I would buy is one I knew was going to crash."

McCoist is also at odds with Whyte's claim that he told the Scottish Premier League that it was "inevitable" that Rangers would go into administration four months before it finally happened in February 2012.

"When did I learn it was inevitable?" McCoist asked rhetorically. "The day we went into administration. I was never told it was inevitable."
