Sydney Sixers recorded their third consecutive Champions League T20 victory to race into the semi-finals, defeating the previously unbeaten Highveld Lions by five wickets.

After impressive wins over Chennai Super Kings and Yorkshire in their previous Group B matches, Sydney made it three wins out of three in Cape Town after overcoming a wobble to chase down 137-9.

Sydney pace bowler Mitchell Starc claimed 3-19 to limit the Lions and fellow Australia internationals Shane Watson (47) and Brad Haddin (32) helped chase down the total with six balls to spare.

Opening batsman Gulem Bodi comfortably top-scored for the Lions with 61 and was the only batsman to enjoy any success against Australia's next generation of pace bowlers.

Left-armer Starc continued his rich vein of form, while Josh Hazlewood (2-18) and Watson (2-25) also chipped in with wickets to peg the Lions back after they had raced to 57-1 in seven overs.

Watson, playing in his last match before returning home to link-up with the Australia Test side, looked determined to send his side off with a win, sharing a brisk 60-run opening stand with Michael Lumb in reply.

The powerful right-hander made 47 before departing in the 11th over - one of three Sydney wickets to fall for the cost of 14 runs.

But Haddin put the run-chase back on track, blasting three successive sixes off slow left-armer Jean Symes before Steve Smith (25no) steered the Sixers over the line.
