Sergio Martinez and Victor Ortiz are set to have their returns to the ring delayed by surgery.
Martinez has opted to have an operation on a torn cartilage suffered when he was dropped in the final round of his fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last month.
The Argentinian survived to win a landslide points decision but emerged from the success with a fractured hand, a gashed head and the knee injury.
But the surgery is only minor and he is expected to be ready to fight again around April, although it will almost certainly not be against light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez.
"There is nothing to it," his advisor Sampson Lewkowicz told ESPN.com. "We haven't discussed anything with anyone."
Meanwhile, Ortiz faces a longer spell on the sidelines after requiring a second operation on the broken jaw he suffered in losing to Josesito Lopez.
Ortiz suffered a double fracture that caused him to quit the fight on June 23 but the bones were not aligning properly so further surgery was required last week.
It remains to be seen when the former WBC welterweight champion can return to action.
