Newport Gwent Dragons have secured youngster Hallam Amos' services for the foreseeable future after he signed a new three-year contract.

There had been speculation the 18-year-old's medical studies could ultimately lead him to leaving the region in order to further his education elsewhere.

However, the Dragons have left no stone unturned in their bid to retain Amos, who briefly became the region's youngest player when he made his debut against Wasps in the LV= Cup last season.

Dragons director of rugby Robert Beale is excited by the opportunity to help develop Amos, stating he hopes the teenager can emulate the progress of Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau.

"We are delighted to have been able to make this happen," Beale said on the club's official website.

"We have worked over previous years to take young players with potential and develop them and Hallam has high hopes of following in the footsteps of Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau.

"Hallam is a talented player with a great work ethic and we are confident that he is a player to watch."
