Vyacheslav Ekimov: New Katusha boss
Russian legend Vyacheslav Ekimov has been named new general manager of Pro Tour cycling team Katusha.
Ekimov, a triple Olympic champion, had been sports director at RadioShack in 2010 and 2011 and replaces German Hans-Michael Holczer.
In a statement Katusha said: "Following the purpose of further dynamic development of Russian professional cycling, Vyacheslav Ekimov is appointed to the post of general manager."
Ekimov, 46, won his first Olympic title in track team pursuit for the Soviet Union in Seoul in 1988 before winning the individual road time trial at the Sydney Games in 2000.
He was awarded his third Olympic gold medal this year after American Tyler Hamilton was officially stripped of his Athens 2004 time trial title because of doping.
Ekimov, named the best Russian cyclist of the 20th century, was also a long-time team-mate of American Lance Armstrong with the Discovery Channel and US Postal teams.
He was appointed a special advisor to the president of the Russian cycling federation Igor Makarov last year.
