Andrew Thornton: Eyeing an October return
National Hunt jockey Andrew Thornton intends to be back race-riding by the middle of next month.
The weighing-room veteran is well on the road to recovery after undergoing keyhole surgery on his knee following a fall at Southwell in July.
Thornton saw a specialist on Wednesday and was given the all-clear to start riding out next week.
"I saw Mr Fogg at the Ridgeway and the X-rays were very good. He said there was no reason why I can't start riding out next week," he said.
"I'm pretty fit now so I go back Dr Turner (chief medical officer for the British Horseracing Authority) on October 3. I imagine I'll be race-riding again in the middle of the month, just at the right time really."
