John Gosden's Starboard won the Prix du Prince d'Orange Stakes at Longchamp but Mandaean disappointed.

The winner, owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah, had finished fourth on two starts in France Group Twos since winning a conditions race at Doncaster.

However, the drop in grade saw him pick up the third win of his career in the 10 furlong contest under Christophe Soumillon in good fashion.

Soumillon made all the running aboard the three year old son of Zamindar and had his rivals in trouble from the moment that he quickened the pace halfway down the home straight.

Prince Mag and Albion chased him home - with the winning margin three lengths - but Mahmood al Zarooni's Mandaean again disappointed on his second start for the Newmarket handler.

The Manduro colt won both starts as a juvenile for Andre Fabre, including the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud, but had finished tailed off on his debut for the yard in the Dante Stakes and again cut little ice, beating two home.
