Eli Manning: Produced another superb display for the New York Giants

Eli Manning produced another superb display as the New York Giants thumped the Carolina Panthers 36-7 in Charlotte.

Manning, fresh from a career-best display against Tampa Bay on Sunday, completed 27-of-35 passes for 288 yards with one touchdown - to Martellus Bennett.

Andre Brown, who replaced the injured Ahmad Bradshaw in the side, also ran for a career-high 113 yards and two touchdowns, while Ramses Barden caught nine passes for a career-high 138 yards on his first NFL start.

The game was effectively over by the interval, with the Giants scoring on its first four possessions to take a 20-0 half-time lead.

"We talked about getting a fast start, jump out to a lead," Manning said. "Get the ball, go 80 yards for a touchdown, that was a great start.

"It set the tempo for the whole game and we kept it going."

Lawrence Tynes landed five field goals - from 47, 49, 30, 36 and 27 yards - to rub salt into the wounds - with the defending Super Bowl champions never troubled by the Panthers.

"We played well but settled for too many field goals maybe," added Manning. "But we had a good game plan and ran the ball really well.

"When we can run the ball everything starts clicking."

While last season's MVP Manning shone, his rival quarterback Cam Newton endured a torrid evening against the Giants defence.

The 2011/12 NFL rookie of the year completed just 16-of-30 passes for 242 yards with three interceptions.

Newton did lead a 13-play drive, though, before diving over from one-yard out for Carolina's only touchdown of the match.
