Japanese star vows to be more offensive like US Open champion
Rising Japanese talent Kei Nishikori has revealed he will take inspiration from Andy Murray as he tries to break into the upper echelons of the men's game.
Nishikori, 22, announced himself on the circuit in 2008 as a teenager when he won an ATP title in just his sixth event as a professional.
That victory at the Delray Beach Tournament remains the only one of his career to date, although he has been as high as 16 in the world rankings back in March.
However, while making steady progress, Nishikori feels he will have to become more aggressive to challenge the game's top players and is looking to follow the lead of Murray in doing so.
More aggressive
"I want to be a little bit more aggressive," Nishikori told reporters in Singapore.
"Like you've seen Andy, he is coming to the net more and he had a good result this last couple of months so hopefully I can play like him, little bit more aggressive, more consistent."
The Japanese star went on to pay tribute to Murray for his performance at the US Open where the Scot finally landing his first grand slam crown.
"I saw the final [against Djokovic], it was unbelievable like rallies at almost every point," said Nishikori.
"He [Murray] was attacking, using more forehand... I think that is what he was working on so that made him win the [US] Open and I think he is going to win more and more."
