Zimbabwe's World Twenty20 campaign could end on Thursday
South Africa hope to end Zimbabwe's World Twenty20 campaign on Thursday when the African teams meet in a Group D match.
On Tuesday Sri Lanka crushed Zimbabwe by 82 runs in the tournament opener and another defeat will bring the curtains down on Zimbabwe as only the top two teams from the four groups advance to the Super Eights.
South Africa's Hashim Amla says his team-mates were more interested in how the pitch played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in this southern port city, rather than the result.
Amla said: "I think more importantly for us was how the wicket reacted and the kind of scores you are looking at (in) this ground and also the size of the field. I think that was more important to us than what happened in the game."
Paceman
The staggering bowling figures of 6-8 from Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis on Tuesday would have encouraged the Proteas spinners, former captain Johan Botha and Robin Pietersen.
Fast bowler Albie Morkel was nursing a back complaint and had a scan on Tuesday. However, manager Mohammad Moosaji said the paceman will hopefully be available for selection.
Alan Butcher, the Zimbabwe coach, said it was a big disappointment to see his batsmen being dismissed for 100 in 17.3 overs after Sri Lanka posted a challenging 182-4.
He said: "Obviously it's our last chance to progress in the tournament and to do so we will have to put in a vastly improved performance than against Sri Lanka.
"But we have to pick ourselves up and be positive against what we know is a very good side."
