Half-back Danny McGuire was the toast of Leeds after becoming Super League's all-time leading tryscorer in the Rhinos' 42-20 win over Wakefield.

The 29-year-old Rhinos favourite equalled former Leeds team-mate Keith Senior's record of 199 tries before picking up a knee injury against Widnes in August and went past him on his comeback in Saturday's elimination play-off.

McGuire's landmark 200th try, on his 257th Super League appearance, capped an impressive second-half performance as Leeds three times came from behind to secure a trip to Catalan Dragons in next Friday's preliminary semi-final.

"It's a really special moment," McGuire said. "It's an honour to be the top tryscorer in Super League.

"Hopefully there's plenty more in me and more in me for this season."

Progress

Wakefield boss Richard Agar felt his team ran out of steam.

Agar had guided his side to a record seven-match winning run at the end of the regular Super League season but he conceded they were no match for their hosts at Headingley.

"Energy got us," Agar said. "Our effort was not in question. We knew we needed to be really good tonight. We just didn't quite execute to the level that we needed to and where we have this year.

"We hung in there at times when perhaps we had no right. The best team won, the team with the most class won.

"I've some troops in there who have come to Headingley to play the champions in a play-off game and are genuinely disappointed that they've not won and know exactly the reasons for it. That to me is progress."
