Darren Fletcher: In the squad for Saturday's Premier League clash at Wigan
Sir Alex Ferguson has named Darren Fletcher in his squad for Saturday's match against Wigan Athletic as the Manchester United midfielder continues to make good progress.
Fletcher has had a long spell on the sidelines due to a career-threatening bowel condition, but has been building his fitness in recent weeks and played 90 minutes for the reserves in midweek.
Ferguson is keen to get the Scotland international back into first-team action and it could even come this weekend when Wigan visit Old Trafford.
The Red Devils manager has confirmed that Fletcher is in contention, while he hopes the illness will now remain under control.
"He's in the squad tomorrow, simply because I think it will give him a boost. It's a chance to progress. At this moment in time everything's going fine for him," Ferguson said.
"We understand the condition he has to deal with [ulcerative collitis]. That can change but hopefully he's managed to conquer it in terms of his diet and how he handles it.
"Things are going well at the moment."
