Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez admits his side's humiliating 94-run defeat to Australia has served as a timely "wake-up call" ahead of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

Pakistan, who had already taken an unassailable lead in the three-match series, were skittled for just 74 - their lowest ever T20 total - in reply to Australia's 168-7 in Dubai on Monday night.

Speaking after the defeat, skipper Hafeez expressed his disappointment that his players could not record a rare whitewash over the Australians.

He said: "Unfortunately we couldn't do well in the last match. It is a wake-up call ahead of the World Twenty20 and we now must realise our duties, but full credit to Australia as they came back strongly.

"I would like to congratulate my team. They were exceptional in the series, but sadly couldn't do well in this match. Warner and Watson played well. I hope we can take some positive things from this game. Every person has to play their role properly."

Warner landed the man of the match award for his brutal 34-ball 59, which included six sixes, while spinner Saeed Ajmal scooped the Player of the Series accolade on the back of six wickets in the three fixtures.

"I have enjoyed bowling against the Aussies. They struggle a bit against spin. We have practised well for the World T20," added Ajmal.

Warner concluded: "We got some good practise batting on slow wickets ahead of the WT20 in Sri Lanka. It's just about backing yourself. I hope I can repeat that in the WT20."

Pakistan also confirmed that former captain Javed Miandad will act as a batting consultant during the World Twenty20.
