Javi Martinez: Thankful for support of team-mates
Javi Martinez has revealed his gratitude to Bastian Schweinsteiger for helping him settle in at Bayern Munich.
Martinez joined the Bavarian giants from Athletic Bilbao in a €40million (£32m) deal last week but as he is unable to speak German he has been reliant on his new team-mates.
That has been forthcoming from the Bayern squad with vice-captain Schweinsteiger a particular help to the Spain international.
"Bastian is a super guy, he helps me a lot and even speaks a bit of Spanish with me," Martinez told German daily Bild.
"He explains the exercises we do in training, which I don't yet understand in German.
"We understand each other really well in the training games and he's helping to make it fun here.
"He's not the only one, the others are all making it very easy for me to feel at home."
But Schweinsteiger admits his knowledge of languages comes mainly from UEFA Champions League games - and so isn't the most refined.
"I am proficient in swear words in Spanish, French, Dutch and Italian," the Germany star joked to SID, an AFP subsidiary.
Schweinsteiger and Martinez have a further opportunity to develop an understanding on and off the pitch as both men have been left out of their national teams for the international break.
Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes has described the two as his 'dream pair' and, after making his debut as a substitute against Stuttgart, Martinez is eyeing a starting spot soon.
"I am training as well as I can to get a regular place," said Martinez in an interview with Bayern's official television channel.
