Anthony Le Tallec has returned to the French top flight after joining Valenciennes on a three-year contract.

The former Liverpool player made the move on Tuesday, France's summer transfer deadline day, after sealing his exit from relegated Auxerre.

Le Tallec had scored four goals in six matches in Ligue 2 since the start of the season and is now hoping to carry on that form in the higher division with Valenciennes.

The Frenchman said: "I have started the season well with Auxerre, where I was full of trust. I hope to go on that way with Valenciennes.

"My objective was to move back to Ligue 1. Valenciennes is a great club to me and I wish to have fun here."
