Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic produced a classy performance to sweep aside Julien Benneteau in straight sets to cruise into the fourth round.

The Frenchman could simply not live with Djokovic's power and precision from the back of the court in a comfortable 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory for the world number two in an hour and 37 minutes.

The Serb, who hit form again on the north American hard courts, winning the title in Toronto and reaching the final in Cincinnati, has now dropped only 14 games in the first three rounds at Flushing Meadows.

Djokovic, 25, now goes on to face Swiss 18th seed Stanilas Wawrinka, who knocked out Ukrainian Alexander Dolgopolov, for a spot in the quarter-finals.

"It was an early match for me. Usually I don't like to play the first match," said Djokovic.

"So it was important to stay strong and commit to every point."

Belgrade-born Djokovic admitted he has been working on different parts of his game, but has been particularly pleased with his serve as he blasted 13 aces and has not faced a break-point since his opening match of the tournament.

"I was very pleased with my serve. It was working really well today," he added.
