Paul Lambert: Changing the Villa team with more than half aged under 25

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has issued a warning to his young side to keep their feet on the ground and be motivated by success on the pitch not money or fame.

Lambert has brought in a host of summer signings meaning more than half of his first-team squad are now under 25.

But the former Norwich boss is stressing that being in a Premier League first-team does not mean they have 'arrived' and wants the focus to be on football.

Lambert said: "That's why I've got great admiration for people like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs because every year they produce and produce and produce, whether they are getting £8 a week or £80,000 a week.

"I don't like young players coming in and thinking they've arrived and it's up to me not to stand for that.

"The more success you have then the money will come naturally. But if you're going to have money as your most important thing, then it becomes a problem.

"If we can get that hunger in them and they keep it, fine."

Lambert will be seeking Villa's first league win of the campaign when they visit Newcastle United on Sunday.
