QPR have struck a deal with one eye on the future, with teenage defender Sam Magri snapped up from Portsmouth on a two-year deal.
The 18-year-old graduated out of Pompey's academy system and into their first-team set-up last season, attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool.
He was unable to prevent the South Coast club from slipping into League One and it was expected to be only a matter of time before he stepped back up the football ladder.
Magri has done just that on transfer deadline day, with QPR offering him a route to the Premier League.
Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton said: "Sam's in the last year of his contract and has been given the opportunity to join a Premier League club.
"There have been a few young players that have gone ahead of him in the pecking order.
"We wish him all the best, but I didn't see him getting near my team this season. It's a good move for all parties."
