Bath's Rob Webber could be out of action until the New Year after undergoing a second shoulder operation although there is better news for Stephen Donald.

The club's summer signing from Wasps has not played since March after tearing his rotator cuff muscle during England's Six Nations win over France.

Webber's injury was not expected to be a major concern for Bath, however, his surgery has now been confirmed meaning he will miss the opening months of the new campaign.

"Rob's had a second operation on his shoulder and we've got some other injuries," Bath first-team coach Mike Ford told the Bath Chronicle.

"But that's the nature of the game and it means a door can open for another player. You've just got to get on the horse."

Boost

Meanwhile, the Premiership club have been boosted by the news that All Blacks World Cup-winner Donald's injury suffered in last Friday's win over the Cardiff Blues is not as serious as initially thought.

Donald will require a spell on the sidelines, however, the club are hopeful of having him fit and available inside a month.

"Stephen's going to need some rehab but not an operation or be out for any extended period of time," said director of rugby Gary Gold.

"He'll be training in the next couple of weeks and we'll hopefully have him back available for selection in three or four weeks."
