Alben Star: Favourite for the Great St Wilfrid
The majority of the leading fancies for Saturday's William Hill Great St Wilfrid Stakes at Ripon have stood their ground.
Richard Fahey's progressive four year old Alben Star just about tops the betting for the six furlong contest and his supporters will be delighted with the Clodovil gelding's draw in three; Tony Hamilton takes the ride.
Mark Johnston had a strong hand at the initial entry stage but the Middleham handler relies on his speedy three year old Es Que Love - Fulbright, Van Ellis and Bannock all bypass the race who will be partnered by Fran Berry.
Kevin Ryan has gone close to landing the valuable prize in recent years and last year's runner-up Our Jonathan (Stephen Craine) tops the weights and will be joined by Captain Ramius (Pat Cosgrave), Louis The Pious (Graham Lee) and Lexi's Hero (Neil Callan).
Last year's winner Pepper Lane will attempt to bounce back to form while Barnet Fair, Bertiewhittle (one of four runners trained by David Barron) and Johannes are other notable runners.
