Wigan fell to a 2-0 defeat against Primera Liga side Real Mallorca despite dominating possession at the DW Stadium.
Defender Ivan Ramis made his debut for the Latics against his former club, having only finalised his move on Thursday.
Franco Di Santo and Victor Moses both came close for Wigan in the first half but the interval was taken with the deadlock still to be broken.
Mallorca then took the lead just two minutes after the break when Victor Casadesus lashed a fierce shot into the top corner past Ali Al Habsi.
Mallorca secured the win in the 87th minute when Sergi Enric got in behind the home defence and squared to Kevin Garcia, who smashed the ball home.
