Malezas moving to Fortuna

Bundesliga new-boys Fortuna Dusseldorf are set to complete the signing of Greece international Stelios Malezas.

Salpingidis' wage demands too expensive for Fortuna

Bundesliga new-boys Fortuna Dusseldorf are set to complete the signing of Greece international Stelios Malezas but a deal for Dimitrios Salpingidis is less likely. Defender Malezas of Greek club PAOK is making the move to Germany for a reported fee of €577,000 (£450,000), with the money being paid in instalments over the next 12 months. Malezas was on Monday undergoing a medical and Fortuna, who last season won promotion via the play-offs, are then expected to officially announce a three-year contract. General manager Wolf Werner told Express newspaper: "We are about to sign Stelios Malezas from PAOK of Greece." But any potential signing of another PAOK player, Greece international Salpingidis, is far from agreed. The forward's agent had last week claimed a free transfer was possible due to PAOK's financial difficulties which meant they might not be able to pay Salpingidis. But Fortuna also think they would find the wage demands of Salpingidis, who scored two goals at Euro 2012, too expensive. "We are unable to supply the financial things he wants," said Werner. "A club like us will take about five more years to be able to fulfil such demands."
