South Africa captain Graeme Smith should be back in England in time for the second Test after returning home to attend the birth of his first child.

Smith cut short his celebrations with the Proteas after winning the first Test to be with his wife Morgan as she went into labour.

On Wednesday he announced the news of the birth of his daughter via his Twitter account.

He said: "Our daughter, Cadence Christine Smith, was born this morning, 3,35kg mother and daughter doing well. Thx for all kind wishes that was amazing?"

Smith flew home on Monday, missing South Africa's two-day match against Worcestershire, but Cricket South Africa indicated that he will return in time for the start of their preparations for the Headingley clash with England, which starts next Thursday.
