Tottenham's teenage midfielder Massimo Luongo has joined Ipswich on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old, capped twice by Australia Under-20s, sealed his move at Portman Road on Monday.

"Joining Ipswich on loan is a great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to challenging for a first-team place here," Luongo told the club's official website.

Luongo joined Tottenham in January 2011 after impressing on trial at the London club, where he came under the supervision of then Tottenham academy coach, Bryan Klug, who is now Ipswich's academy director.

The youngster, who prefers to play a midfield anchor role, made his first-team debut in Tottenham's Carling Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Stoke last season.
