Second seed Dominika Cibulkova claimed the WTA Mercury Insurance Open title after beating top seed Marion Bartoli 6-1 7-5.

Bartoli had been taken to three sets in all three of her matches en route to the final in Carlsbad, California, but there was no way back when Cibulkova got into her groove.

The 23-year-old Slovakian captured her second WTA Tour crown by completing the win in 95 minutes.

Cibulkova looked the more assured from the outset, breaking serve three times to storm through the first set. She won 14 of 22 points in all on the Frenchwoman's second serve.

The second set was a tighter affair and featured five breaks of serve, but Cibulkova edged it to leave world number 10 Bartoli without a WTA Tour title since last October.

"I was enjoying the final. So I didn't put so much pressure on myself and when it was 6-5 (in the second set), I just said, 'come on, risk it'," Cibulkova said.

Bartoli spent over eight hours on court before the final and says she felt the effects of her extertions on Sunday.

She added: "I think the toughest part for me was to play three matches at night and then come to the day session, which is obviously different.

"I played well to get the lead in the second and get to 4-1 but from then on, I started to feel a bit tired and was not moving so quickly.

"But she played very fast and extremely well, so she made me feel uncomfortable as well."
