Muttiah Muralitharan: spinner flying in for Gloucestershire's FLt20 quarter-final
Gloucestershire have agreed a deal for Muttiah Muralitharan to return for their Friends Life t20 quarter-final against Sussex.
The 40-year-old Sri Lankan played six group matches as an overseas professional, taking just five wickets but excelling with an economy rate of just 5.11 runs an over.
He also brings vast experience, having played 124 domestic Twenty20 games for clubs including three Indian Premier League franchises - Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Gloucestershire's quarter-final will take place at Hove on Tuesday with a scheduled 7.10pm start.
Muralitharan, who has also played county cricket for Kent and Lancashire - making his Twenty20 debut for the Red Rose in 2005 - is en route to England and will begin training as soon as possible.
Tom Richardson, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, said: "Murali made a major contribution on and off the field during our group t20 matches and we are delighted he has been able to return to join up with the team for the quarter finals.
"We would like to thank Sitec Group, our t20 shirt sponsors, for their support which has helped make this possible."
It is understood that Gloucestershire intend to offer Muralitharan another one-off deal to return for finals day on August 25 should they defeat Sussex.
