Ile De Re: Given break following this win at Newcastle
John Smith's Northumberland Plate winner Ile De Re is enjoying a break after his win in a grueling renewal of the Newcastle marathon left its mark.
Trainer Donald McCain is letting the six-year-old grey rest on his laurels after he added the 'Pitmen's Derby' at Newcastle to his Chester Cup success.
McCain is no hurry to make plans for Ile De Re or Overturn, who won both major Flat staying handicaps in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
"Ile De Re was a little bit stiff and sore. That ground pulled him around a bit as it does, but he's grand," said the Cholmondeley handler.
"He's going out every day in the paddock with Overturn. They are out together. They are going to have a quiet few weeks before we decide where we go next."
