Danish Kaneria: Pakistan spinner is appealing his life ban from cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board will enforce the life ban imposed on Danish Kaneria by their English counterparts, confirming the leg-spinner is suspended from domestic competitions in Pakistan pending his appeal.

Kaneria was found guilty of two charges related to spot-fixing by an England and Wales Cricket Board disciplinary panel in June.

It was ruled that the former Essex player "knowingly induced or encouraged (then team-mate) Mervyn Westfield not to perform on his merits" in a 40-over contest against Durham in 2009.

And he was also found guilty of a second offence of bringing cricket into disrepute, something the panel stated was "self evident" given the first charge.

Under International Cricket Council rules, sanctions on any player from any member country apply in all other member countries, a rule which the game's governing body said is in place "to stamp out corruption".

The PCB's integrity committee endorsed the ban while Kaneria's appeal is considered.

"Till the matter is finally concluded by ECB's appeal panel, the integrity committee decided that Kaneria will not be eligible to play any cricket match, or participate in any cricket event/activity in Pakistan," the PCB said in a statement.
