England seamer Jade Dernbach has been ruled out of the remaining three one-day internationals against Australia with a side strain.

Dernbach played in the second match at The Oval, taking 0-59 as England opened a 2-0 lead in the series with a six-wicket victory.

But the Surrey seamer will play no further part in the series, which England need to win 5-0 to overhaul Australia at the top of the ODI rankings.

"A rehabilitation and recovery programme will be established alongside Surrey CCC in the coming days following further medical assessment," read a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Dernbach was due to miss Wednesday's third one-day international against Australia at Edgbaston in any case, on compassionate grounds.

He and fellow England squad member Stuart Meaker will attend the funeral of their former Surrey team-mate Tom Maynard, who died at the age of 23 in an incident on a London Tube line.

England had already called up Warwickshire seamer Chris Woakes to cover the absences of Meaker and Dernbach.

First-choice fast bowler James Anderson missed the win at The Oval with a groin injury, and his participation in the rest of the series remains uncertain.

England plan to announce a replacement for Dernbach after Wednesday's fixture in Birmingham.
