Christian Horner has said he sees no reason why Mark Webber would look to leave Red Bull at the end of the season amid ongoing speculation that Ferrari are poised to make a move for him.
Webber's future at Formula 1's current World Champion team has become a regular topic of discussion at this time of year in recent seasons, with the now 35-year-old Australian having been happy in recent years to sign single-season contracts at Red Bull.
The F1 driver market grapevine has suggested that, with Felipe Massa looking likely to leave Ferrari at the end of the current campaign barring a dramatic upturn in form, Ferrari are bidding to move for Webber to partner his good friend Fernando Alonso for 2013, although both sides have played down such talk at this stage.
Webber has become a mainstay at Red Bull having initially joined the team in 2007 and, on the back of his impressive first victory of the season in Monaco, his Team Principal has questioned why the Australian would look to seek pastures new.
"Why would he want to leave?" Horner said. "He is comfortable in the team. The team know Mark very well and he knows the team very well.
"We are only at race six and a lot depends on his motivation and desire going forward, which at the moment looks very clear."
Horner, who hailed Webber's performance en-route to his eighth career victory on Sunday as "fantastic", insisted neither side was in a rush to talk about the future though despite what happened in Monaco.
"We're only in May this year," he pointed out. "Mark is doing a good job, so let's focus on his latest Monaco win and his future will take care of itself.
"We have a very open and straightforward relationship with Mark and this does not change that situation."
