Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati rider to set off first

Jakub Smrz claimed pole position for Monday's two races at Miller Motorsports Park for the United Sates round of the Superbike World Championship. Althea Racing Ducati's Carlos Checa was on course to clinch first on the grid prior to being beaten by the Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati rider. Smrz claimed his first Superpole win of the season after setting a lap time of one minute 47.626 seconds in the last of three sessions. The Czech Republic-born rider had set the fastest time during the first qualifying session on Saturday and held his form throughout Sunday. The third fastest time went to one lap specialist Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki Racing Team machine while the front row was completed by Checa's team-mate Davide Giugliano. Honda's Jonathan Rea was fifth quickest ahead of Smrz's team-mate Sylvain Guintoli. Aprilia Racing team-mates Max Biaggi and Eugene Laverty completed the second row.
