Surrey stalwart left out of squad to face Somerset

Surrey have omitted veteran batsman Mark Ramprakash from their squad to play Somerset at the Kia Oval in this week's LV= County Championship Division One match. Former England international Ramprakash, 42, has been one of the most prolific batsmen in county history, scoring 100 first-class hundreds. However, in nine innings so far this season, Ramprakash has failed to score more than 25, and in Surrey's last match against Worcestershire he bagged a pair. He has lost his place in the team for the first time in recent memory as a result. Surrey boss Chris Adams said: "We have not selected Mark Ramprakash for the game against Somerset which was a very difficult decision to make. "Mark has had a tough start to the season and has not made the impact with the bat that he would have wanted to. "But you do not score the amount of runs that Mark has without knowing your own game and I know he will work hard to find his form again. The challenge now for Mark is to push hard to regain his place for the remainder of the season." Ramprakash tweeted: "Very disappointed to b left out of the Surrey team for both 1 & 4 day cricket. I'm fit/healthy & want to play. Wish the boys every success."
