Smith planning a return to action soon as recovery goes well

South Africa captain Graeme Smith is confident he will be fit to tour England later this summer after undergoing ankle surgery. The opener expects to be ready for the series in July and August, while Cricket South Africa have confirmed they are satisfied with his progress. "Graeme has responded well to the surgery on his ankle and started with his rehabilitation programme this week," said South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee. "We are very pleased with the progress he is making, and at this stage he is on target to be fit for the tour to England." Smith is still feeling some pain in the left ankle, but is nonetheless planning to be back in action soon and in good time for the three-match series between world Test number ones England and second-placed South Africa. "The tour to England is an important one for the Proteas, and I'm confident that I will be 100 per cent fit and able to lead the team by then," he said.
