James Franklin: New Zealander will make county return with Essex
Essex have signed New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin as their second overseas star for this season's Friends Life t20 campaign.
The left-arm seamer, who is also a useful batsman, joins Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle at Chelmsford for the 20-over competition.
Franklin, who is currently playing in the IPL, has had previous stints in county cricket with Glamorgan and Gloucestershire.
"We are delighted to welcome James to the club. He obviously has huge county cricket experience having played here a few seasons," said Essex head coach Paul Grayson.
"Franklin has shown his ability in the 20-over format of the game with his outstanding IPL record. He is a genuine all-rounder in this format and adds further quality to the talented and strong squad."
