Richard Pyrah: Set for around six week out after breaking his left hand against Kent

Yorkshire will be without all-rounder Richard Pyrah for around six weeks after he broke his left hand during their drawn County Championship clash with Kent.

The 29-year-old sustained the blow while fielding on the mid-wicket boundary to leg-spinner Adil Rashid when the ball bounced up awkwardly and struck his ring finger.

Pyrah knew straight away something was wrong and he is frustrated to be back on the sidelines after twisting his knee against the same opponents last summer.

"It was a pretty freakish accident," reflected Pyrah to the Yorkshire Post.

"The ball bobbled in front of me and I leant on my left hand and heard a snap; I knew straight away I'd done something bad.

"I knew I'd done something but didn't want to accept it; I didn't tell anyone for about half-an-hour because I hoped it would eventually settle down.

"It's frustrating because I worked really hard during the winter and then this goes and happens in the first game of the season.

"The only good thing, I suppose, is that it was a clean break.

"Hopefully, in four weeks' time, I'll be able to have the pot off and start building up my strength from there, but we're looking at around six weeks in total."

Yorkshire were relegated to Division Two last season and Pyrah admits the pressure is firmly on Jason Gillespie's team to bounce back at the first time of asking.

"There is pressure on us this year and rightly so," he continued.

"We've got a good young squad and Yorkshire deserve to be in Division One.

"But, if you play for Yorkshire, you've got to expect pressure."
