Charlton Athletic are experiencing a little wobble in the race for promotion as the two Sheffield clubs try to chase down the League One leaders.

The battle to avoid relegation serves up a couple of potentially important fixtures and there is unlikely to be any let-up in the chase for a play-off spot.

Following one win in five games, Charlton are now only six points clear at the summit ahead of a London derby against Leyton Orient at The Valley.

Sheffield United moved back into second by beating Chesterfield in midweek and travel to a Hartlepool United side with the worst home record of the teams in the top half of the table.

Third-placed Sheffield Wednesday kick off the weekend's programme in the division by entertaining hopelessly inconsistent Preston North End, live on Sky Sports 2HD.

Huddersfield Town are the other side still in the mix for automatic promotion, but face a tricky trip to Carlisle United, who sit in sixth position.

MK Dons are likely to have to settle for a play-off spot after a midweek defeat by Carlisle and next play host to Brentford.

Chesterfield came back down to earth with a bump after last weekend's Johnstone's Paint Trophy success and the division's bottom club are at home to fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United.

The other game involving two relegation rivals comes at Spotland as third-bottom Rochdale entertain Walsall, who are two points outside the drop zone.

Wycombe Wanderers are still inside the bottom four positions and have a tough task at Stevenage, who are three points adrift of the top six.

Exeter City are entrenched in the relegation mire, but will hope for a much-needed three points against a Colchester United side whose play-off hopes have all-but vanished after six games without a win.

Notts County's own play-off hopes have faltered after three matches without a win ahead of unpredictable Oldham Athletic's visit to Meadow Lane.

Bournemouth are at home for the first time since Lee Bradbury's sacking and will be hoping to reach the 50-point mark by avoiding defeat against Yeovil Town.

Bury are on a run of 13 League One games without a win and will be trying to arrest that slump at home to a resurgent Tranmere Rovers.
