Scott Newman: Short-term move to Kent

Kent have signed Middlesex opening batsman Scott Newman on a short-term loan deal ahead of the new season.

Newman, who is in the final year of a three-year contract at Middlesex, will link-up with his new Kent colleagues at the St Lawrence Ground for pre-season preparation and remain with the county until at least May 31.

The signing will help fill the batting void left by new Middlesex recruit Joe Denly and the retiring Martin van Jaarsveld.

Speaking on the move, 32-year-old left-hander Newman, who averages 38.77 in first-class cricket, said: "I am happy to have reached an agreement to play for Kent early in the season and am looking forward to helping get them off to a good start in the County Championship.

"That said my main goal is to work at getting back into the first XI at Middlesex."

Middlesex's managing director of cricket, Angus Fraser added: "We're happy that we've reached an agreement with Kent for Scott to go on loan for the opening two months of the season.

"A player of Scott's experience needs to be playing first-class cricket and this gives him the perfect opportunity to do so, so it's a win-win situation for us."
