Waddock rues wasteful Wanderers

Manager Gary Waddock felt his side deserved something from the game after watching Wycombe get narrowly beaten by Stevenage.

Wanderers had their chances and should have taken the lead when the recently-prolific Marcello Trotta saw his header saved before he then scooped a second effort over the crossbar. The hosts were punished for their profligacy with eight minutes to go when Lawrie Wilson scored the only goal of the game. 'We deserved something from the game without a shadow of a doubt,' said Waddock. 'I thought our performance was good against a very good side who have been outstanding this season, so we're obviously disappointed. 'They're in the position that they're in for a reason. They've been able to get results up until this point and we more than matched them. I think the goal was probably their second effort on target but they've won the game. Credit to them. 'There were probably a couple of opportunities in the phase of play leading to the goal where we could have dealt with it better but we know Stevenage go right to the end. We all know about their fitness levels. We had a couple of efforts on target which (Stevenage goalkeeper) Chris Day spilled and we were unable to capitalise on that chance that Trotta had.'
